Current Inspirations: Disney Princesses

I recently re-watched an old childhood Disney favourite of mine, Aladdin. After this I spent a whole day deep in nostalgia watching classics from 'back-in-the-day' and also discovering some new animated faves (namely The Princess and The Frog and Tangled). Whilst watching these films I suddenly felt inspired by the costumes that the Princesses wore. Obviously it would be a tad strange to go prancing about in a ball gown but if the outfit inspiration came from a princess then surely it's still a royally good outfit!

The first princess I'm using as inspiration is Jasmine from Aladdin. Crop tops and bralets are super fashionable this season so Jasmine was waaay ahead of the trend in 1992. A light blue cropped top like the one pictured below (New Look) is great for keeping a bit cooler and getting a nice belly tan in these summer months. Pair it with an oversized gold necklace and a blue headband like the ones below (Necklace: Asos, Headband: Deepa Gurnani).

The next inspirational princess is Ariel. She's best known for her bright red locks but I was loving the huge blue bow she wears in her tresses whilst being a mute human. Tie up the front sections of your hair with a nice blue ribbon (you can find some at your local market or haberdashery) or you can purchase a clip with a ready tied bow if you prefer.

For most of the Princess and the Frog Tiana is a frog but at the start of the film, whilst working in a cafe, she wears a yellow blouse that gave me serious fashion envy. Something like this Aryn K button down is perfect for summery weather and feeling like a princess.

Lastly Pocahontas. Tassels are still on trend so a tasselled top like this (To Love Kunaa) is fashionable and fun!

I hope that this blog post has inspired you to dress like a modern day princess! Feel free to leave your comments below!
